Overview

Day 1 | Cusco – Salineras - Maras Moray.
This tour can start at 8:30 a.m. or at 12:30 p.m., at which time our private transportation will pick you up and take you to the town of Maras, which still retains its colonial charm. Then, you can admire buildings built with quality stone and lintels adorned with relief sculptures. Later, we will visit the Salineras, where a salt mine is located.
During the dry season, workers fill the 3,000 small pools with salt water, a process that takes place over a month. The salt is treated with iodine, then packaged and distributed to various markets throughout the Cusco region.
There is a short walk downhill from the Salineras, which takes around 40 minutes to reach our transport.
Then, we head to the ruins of Moray, located 3450 meters above sea level. There we can observe the agricultural terraces and their complex irrigation system. The different levels of terraces are sculpted into a large bowl, presenting varied microclimates depending on the depth of the bowl. They functioned as a natural greenhouse and it is also believed that they could have had cosmological significance.
Finally, we will return to your hotel in the city of Cusco.
