Overview
The journey to Ausangate (also known as Awsanqati in the Quechua language) in Peru is part of a vast network of Inca trails that spans more than 23,000 kilometers and connected the Tahuantinsuyo Empire, known as "The Inca Country". This empire, which means four regions, extended across several South American countries such as Colombia, western Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, the central part of Chile and northern Argentina. These roads tended to mainly follow the coast or go into the mountains, and in some cases even reached the tropical edge of the Amazon rainforest. The Qhapaq Ñan, which means the Inca Trail in Quechua, is the network of trails that was undoubtedly one of the wonders of the Tahuantinsuyo. According to the Peruvian historian José Antonio del Busto, the Inca Huayna Cápac increased this network of trails with the aim of mobilization.
