Description
The excursion to Choquequirao Trek is a fascinating experience and one of the most popular trips in the Cusco region. It is impressive for its spectacular natural environment, which includes valleys, snow-capped mountains and a great diversity of flora and fauna. Rest peacefully under the Inca sky and admire the majestic beauty of the Apus (mountain gods) such as Yanama, Ampay, Chokecarpu, Pumasillo and Panta, along the left bank of the Apurímac River.
Located in the Salkantay mountain range, more than 3030 meters above sea level, Choquequirao Trek is located in an area surrounded by the Apus mentioned above. During Inca times, this place was interconnected with Machu Picchu through an intricate network of trails. Known as "The Last Refuge of the Inca Empire," Choquequirao Trek offers visitors the opportunity to explore a complex hydraulic system, presumably used for domestic, ceremonial and agricultural purposes. Its geographical location in relation to other religious centers of the same period suggests that it was an Inca enclave towards the valleys of the Apurímac River, with many similarities with Machu Picchu. The Road to Choquequirao Trek had a religious and ceremonial purpose, being a pilgrimage that included rituals to honor the mountains and peaks along the route, such as the sacred Salkantay.

Then, we will continue descending to Chiquisca, where we will make a brief break. After lunch, we will begin our last stretch of the day, which will last approximately 1 hour descending towards the Palya Rosalina sector, located at about 1800 meters above sea level, near the Apurímac River, known as "the sacred river."
